Last Wishes
We’re getting better and more willing as a society to talk about death and the process of dying.
Because of this, many will consider pre-planning their own funeral ceremony.
You may decide to pre-plan to lessen the burden on your loved ones.
Perhaps you have a clear vision of your last send off and want your wishes to be known.
Pre-planning your funeral ceremony can be a surprisingly joyful experience.
It offers peace of mind and the reassurance that your family will not need to second guess your wishes, or have to try and remember details about your life.
This allows them to focus on more practical matters that will arise, whilst giving them the solace and comfort of knowing that they have honoured your last wishes.
How many of us have attended a great funeral and commented on how much we want our final ceremony to reflect similar wishes?
Sadly, many of us have also attended funerals which we felt said nothing about the person who is gone, and that an opportunity was missed to celebrate a life well lived.

I will plan your ceremony with you, to include any elements you wanted.
This can include a choice of music, readings and who you would like to participate on the day.
There may be people you want to involve in telling the story of your life directly, through anecdotes or recollections or tributes.
You may have particular choices you would like passed on to the funeral home, like a preference for flowers or a particular type of casket.
Perhaps you would prefer to choose the clothing you want to be wearing on your final journey.
Alternatively, there may be elements of your ceremony where you have no particular preferences.
Simply making it known clearly that you are happy for your family to make certain choices on your behalf, can be so helpful.
We will chat together about your life so far; growing up, your family and friends, hobbies, interests, memories and anecdotes.
Together we can write a fitting eulogy that reflects your true personality and how you want to be remembered.

We will meet again once I have drafted your ceremony.
I will include strategies and reminders to review your plan, throughout the remainder of your life.
You will be given a copy of your funeral to keep, as well as a checklist to help you inform your nearest and dearest where to find this information.
You may choose to give a copy to both your chosen funeral director as well as placing a copy with your will.
Planning your own funeral can be a rewarding and life-affirming experience.
Helping my lovely husband plan his funeral was life changing for both of us.
I am passionate about sending out this message and I hope you will get in touch if you agree.
